When the temperature starts increasing we are reminded of the imminent baring of flesh. There are a number of weight loss plans that you can buy that offer instant weight loss results, for a minimum investment, but the truth is you are able to shift five to 10 kilos of extra weight over the next eight to 12 weeks without resorting to an extreme diet plan.

By cutting out those extra kilojoules that seem to slip into your day, and by aiming for at least an hour of physical activity every day, you should be able to drop one kilogram a week.

When starting any diet program the most important step is to get organised. Make sure your fridge and cupboards are stocked with healthy options for the week to help you avoid temptation, and schedule your exercise sessions at times when you know you will be less likely to skip them.

1. Stock your fridge with fresh fruit and vegetables.

2. Always carry healthy snacks with you

3. Keep chopped celery and carrots on hand to manage the munchies

4. Drink a green tea after each meal

5. Keep dinner light by eating fish or grilled chicken and vegetables.

6. Avoid alcohol

7. Eat a handful of nuts each day

8. Make breakfast your largest meal of the day

9. Make extra healthy meals for yourself over the weekend to have during the week.

10. Team up with a buddy, friend or partner to keep you on track

11. After dinner go for a family walk

12. If you are still hungry after dinner, include a small treat but make sure it's less than 400 kilojoules.

Finally, you need to be strict with yourself and what you eat for the next five to six days of each week and give yourself a day or evening off, as this will be much easier to stick too.
